Directed and co-written by Burhan Qurbani, this 2020 adaptation reimagines the 1929 novel of the same name penned by Alfred D?blin. Transposing the story to modern-day narratives, the film focuses on the journey of Francis (Welket Bungu?), an immigrant from Guinea-Bissau who arrives in Germany as an undocumented illegal. He ends up working within dire circumstances along with fellow undocumented individuals under a racist construction supervisor. His life soon changes paths as he runs into Reinhold (Albrecht Schuch), a local drug dealer who will change his life direction.
