Community Policy

• Be respectful.Treat other members the way you'd want to be treated. Disagreement about a film is fine; personal attacks, harassment, and discrimination are not. Discrimination includes (but is not limited to) racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and religious hatred.
• Keep contributions accurate.When you edit the catalogue — release dates, formats, distributors, cover art — try to get it right. Cite sources where you can. Honest mistakes happen; deliberate vandalism doesn't.
• Respect copyright.Cover scans, packaging images, and other contributions must either be your own or fall under a permission you have (fair dealing, fair use, explicit licence). Don't upload pirated material.
• Stay on topic. FilmShelves is about physical film collections. Off-topic posting, repeated spam, and unrelated promotion belong elsewhere.
• Use spoiler tags. When you write about plot points that significantly change the experience of a first-time viewer, mark them as spoilers.

The following will get content removed and may get the account behind it suspended or terminated:

• Harassment, threats, doxxing, or coordinated targeting of a person.
• Hate speech or content that promotes violence against people based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or similar protected characteristics.
• Sexual content involving minors — see "Child safety" below. This is an immediate ban with no warning.
• Glorification of terrorism, mass violence, or self-harm.
• Impersonating a real person, including FilmShelves staff.
• Selling, advertising, or linking to pirated film content.
• Spam, deceptive automation, and large-scale scraping of catalogue or member data.
• Catalogue vandalism — deliberately wrong edits, duplicate entries created to inflate stats, fake releases.
• Ban evasion — creating new accounts to get around a suspension. New accounts will be banned, and the original suspension may be extended.

FilmShelves has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). Any content that depicts, sexualises, grooms, or otherwise harms a minor is strictly prohibited and will result in an immediate permanent ban.

We report apparent CSAE to law enforcement and to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) or the relevant local authority, as required by law.

Report CSAE content immediately via the in-app report tool or by emailing safety@filmshelves.com. Safety reports are prioritised.

If you see something that breaks this Community Policy, please report it so the moderation team can review it.

• In-app — use the report option next to the post, comment, profile, or catalogue edit. Pick the best-fit reason and add context if it helps.
• By email— for issues that don't fit the in-app form, or that involve someone you can't reach in-app, email safety@filmshelves.com.
• Child safety (CSAE) — handled as described above; prioritised.

We aim to acknowledge reports within a few business days. Reports made in bad faith (e.g. mass-reporting a member you disagree with) are themselves a violation of this policy.

Moderation is handled by FilmShelves staff. Depending on the severity and the member's history, action may include:

• removing the specific content;
• reverting a catalogue edit and locking the affected record;
• a warning to the member;
• temporary suspension of posting, contribution, or account access;
• permanent account termination for serious or repeated violations, or for content covered by the "What we don't allow" list above.

For serious or safety-related cases we may act immediately and without prior notice. Where practical we will explain what was removed and why.

If you believe a moderation decision was wrong, reply to the notification we sent you, or email safety@filmshelves.com with the relevant context. We'll review the decision and let you know the outcome. We do not revisit bans for CSAE, threats of violence, or repeated ban evasion.

This Community Policy is part of the Terms of Use by reference. Breaking this policy counts as breaking the Terms. Privacy questions are covered by the Privacy Policy.

We may update this policy as the community grows. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated in-app.
