It is 1931, and aspiring writer Jakob Fabian (Tom Schilling) finds himself making ends meet by writing advertising copies in Berlin. At nights, however, he frequents the exciting establishments the city has to offer with his adventurous friend Stephan Labude (Albrecht Schuch). Amidst the moral chaos and decay engulfing the society he is in and his fatalistic outlook in life, his fondness of Cornelia (Saskia Rosendahl) keeps him grounded and expectant of a renaissance. The film, which is based on Erich Kastner's novel, is directed by Dominik Graf.
