Mike Finnegan and Liz DeHaan don't have a lot in common. Mike is a 65 year old newspaper man who's been demoted to the lonely hearts desk. The job's a bore, he's a grouch, and his 75 year old wife, who's sometimes lucid, sometimes not, is no consolation. Liz is a school teacher in her early 40s caught up in a dead-end love affair with a married mortician. Despite her pleasant demeanour, Liz despairs of ever finding anything more in her life than the illicit afternoons she spends in a fleabag hotel with her guilty lover. Mike and Liz are mismatched, mixed up and, maybe, just perfect for eachother.
