Nel primo ristorante della catena Freddy Fazbear's avviene una tragedia: la morte misteriosa di una ragazza considerata strana, Charlotte, che aveva cercato di salvare un bambino nel disinteresse dei genitori. Venti anni dopo, e successivamente agli eventi terrificanti raccontati nel primo film, Abby, sorella minore di Mike, sente la mancanza dei suoi compagni di giochi, i giganteschi e inquietanti animatronics di Freddy's, posseduti dagli spiriti delle vittime innocenti del killer William Afton. Mike sottovaluta il malcontento di Abby e così non si accorge che una minaccia mortale, ancor più temibile di quella affrontata in passato, sta per abbattersi su lui e Vanessa, l'altra sopravvissuta alla notte da Freddy's, che Mike sta frequentando.
