Renko (Tomoko Tabata) simply cannot understand why her parents want to separate. She is eleven years old and this inexplicable behavior of her parents sends her into a tailspin. It is as if her whole life were destroyed. When she is not scheming to bring them back together, she is suffering from her own undirected rage. One day she even sets her chemistry lab on fire. During a family holiday, she tries especially hard to bring her parents back together, but eventually realizes that she cannot. In despair, she walks away aimlessly. Her parents are united in their distress that she has gone missing, but it is clear that they will never remarry.
