"Acclaimed director Roman Polanski's first English-language effort is a psychological thriller about an unstable young beautician named Carol (Catherine Deneuve) whose fear of men and sex explodes over the course of a weekend which she spends alone in her sister Helen's (Yvonne Furneaux) London flat. When Helen and her sweetheart Michael (Ian Hendry) take a vacation, Carol starts to hallucinate and eventually loses what is left of her mind. She continues her descent into madness with two dead bodies, a decomposing rabbit, and a rotten potato as her non-verbal companions. This horror-drenched psychological drama caused quite a stir at the 1965 Cannes Film Festival after being shown in a non-competing time slot.
