Directed by Joseph Losey, The Go-Between (1971) is a British period drama based on the novel by L. P. Hartley. Starring Julie Christie and Alan Bates, the film follows a young boy drawn into a secret romantic relationship between an aristocratic woman and a local farmer during the early 20th century. The film won the Palme dOr at the Cannes Film Festival and became one of the defining British literary adaptations of the 1970s.
