This tough, brutal action film has become somewhat of a cult favorite due to its timely subject-matter (inner city gangs) and its notorious reputation. The action begins when the representatives from all the New York City street gangs attempt to unite their numbers into one powerful group, and the resultant shooting is wrongly pinned on a gang known as the Warriors. The Warriors, stranded outside of their "turf" and facing the violent revenge of the rival gangs, must struggle to survive their flight through enemy territory to return "home." The film is extremely violent and is notorious for having instigated a number of gang-related incidents in theaters where it was shown. It remains, however, a lightning-paced action movie with good special effects. The photography by Andrew Laszlo is particularly noteworthy.
