Set in 17th century Moravia, an old woman is accused of witchcraft after being caught stealing communion bread. Despite protesting that she was only taking it to give to her ailing cow as part of its treatment, a judge specialising in witch trials is brought in to deal with the case and quickly begins accusing more of the local women of devil worship and sorcery.
